Since childhood, Malhotra was enamored of colors and often taught his mother about make-up and lipstick colors. He was good at sketching and art but he was only an ordinary student at school studies. The two qualities that helped him survive through his formal institutional training were his excellent illustrations and designs.
His profession breakthrough occurred when he made clothes for the lead cast of the film, Rangeela. From a simplistic and sober character in the film, he transformed Urmila Matondkar into a hot and sexy woman. Manish not only picks her clothes but her make-up and hair too. Manish Malhotra (born 5 December 1966) is an Indian fashion designer who often works with Hindi cinema actresses. He launched his label in 2005. In 2014, his label marked a turnover of over INR 1 Billion (US$15 Million). Malhotra started his career as a model, while studying at the Elphinstone College.

For the jewelry industry, Malhotra has partnered with heritage jeweler Raniwala 1881.
To start with, Malhotra will curate a set with the jeweler, but in a few months, will create his pieces. “For me, quality is important. Raniwala has been making this since 1881 and has a legacy in it.
The jewelry itself will be inherited with a new touch, much like my clothes. So there will be a bunch of uncut gems and polka, combined with diamonds, and it will be exciting,” says Malhotra.
